February 22, 2017, Wednesday - Morning Forum (formerly known as Breakfast with a Preservationist) at the Mill City Museum
Time: 8:00am to 9:00am
Location: Mill City Museum, ADM Conference Room: 6th Floor, 710 South Second Street
February Morning Forum (formely known as Breakfast with a Preservationist): "The Metropolitan Building – When Minneapolis Tore Down its Greatest Architectural Treasure"
When Minneapolis city leaders, in 1962 ordered the twelve story Romanesque Revival stone masterpiece in downtown to be demolished, the city’s preservation activists did nothing to stop it.
That’s because the historic preservation movement in Minneapolis did not exist at that time. Morning Forum (formerly Breakfast With a Preservationist) will portray images of that magnificent structure along with a narrative of why this tragedy happened, and how this loss engendered the historic preservation movement that has since safeguarded the city’s architectural heritage.
Free to attend, donations appreciated.
