Make art with Walker Art Center and enjoy an artistic line-up of award-winning films about birds and fish.
•Fine Feathers, National Film Board of Canada, Evelyn Lambart, 1968, 5 min.Two dueling birds, a bluejay and a loon, get the urge to change their plumage and learn to value their feathers over fashion.
•La Merle (The Blackbird), National Film Board of Canada, Norman McLaren and Evelyn Lambart, 1958, 4 min. An animated version of a French-Canadian folksong in which a bird loses a beak, neck, eyes, wings, legs, and then finds them in duplicate and triplicate.
Swimmy, Weston Woods, 5 min. Leo Lionni’s underwater tale about a little black fish leading the way in a school of red fish. •This Is Not My Hat, Weston Woods, 6 min. Jon Klassen’s book about a tiny fish who steals a blue bowler hat and has a plan to get away with it. Will he?
•Whalebird, Sophie Roze, 7 min. A day in the life of a Whale Bird, who sleeps under the sea by night, and plays on the beach and in the woods by day.

Childish Films @ the Library is a free program of children’s cinema and arts for all ages. Each screening features a pre-show activity, an educational introduction, and complimentary healthy snacks. Admission is free with open seating to the public. Most films are best enjoyed by ages 3 and older, but children and people of all ages are welcome to attend. If you have specific questions about the content of a particular film, please e-mail our curators. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
