Establishing a Twin Cities Rail: A Conversation with Phong Bui

Join artist, writer, and curator Phong Bui in a discussion about the success of the monthly journal The Brooklyn Rail and the possibility of launching in our region a similar type of nonprofit journal offering critical perspectives on the arts, politics, and culture.

Bui is the co-found, editor, and publisher of The Brooklyn Rail and the publishing press The Brooklyn Rail Editions, as well as the host/producer of Off the Rail on Art International Radio (AIR), a board member of The Brooklyn Rail, The Miami Rail, The Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, and the International Association of Art Critics United States Section (AICA/USA). He has taught and lecture at Skowhegan, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Rhode Island School of Desgin, The New School for Social Research, and elsewhere. Bui is currently adjunct professor in the School of Visual Arts Graduate Program in Art Criticism & Writings and MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media, and serves as a core critic for the Yale University School of Art MFA in Painting/Printinmaking. As a visual artist, Bui has won the Award in Art from The Pollock/Krasner Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Eric Isenbeurger Annual Prize for Installation from the National Academy Museum, among others.

This event is made possible thanks to the McKnight Foundation, with assistance from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, mnartists.org, the Loft Literary Center, and the Walker Art Center.
