Time: Class begins at 6:30 pm sharp

Location: North Loop Wine and Spirits, 218 Washington Ave N

The Champagne Masterclass 2019 Edition

THE CHAMPAGNE MASTERCLASS 2019 EDITION! Just in time for New Year's Eve, when you can impress your friends with your encyclopedic knowledge of the wine world, comes the annual Twin Cities Wine Education Champagne Masterclass. This year it's TWO great classes of Champagne education and tasting, featuring the top selections available today across a complete range of styles, prices, and producers. This is without any question the best night of Champagne education available in Minnesota in 2019! *Note: the two classes, December 26th and December 28th, are identical.

We will start with an overview of the Champagne production process, and why it's fundamentally different from many other sparkling wines. Then we'll talk about the history of the region, the marketing of Champagne as a brand, and the way to know what to expect from that bottle. Then we'll dive into the terroir of the Champagne region. Can you name the three main sub-regions of Champagne? Can you name the three types of soil in the region? Can you name the three grapes used in the production? Can you (here's a toughie) name the three codes on every Champagne label you can use to determine something very important about the production style of that wine? N ot only will we be talking about these 'rules of three' but also cover a wealth of other subjects including: the definition of the sweetness levels (Brut, Extra Dry, etc.), the production method that makes this amazing wine, and the history of the region from the Romans, through the World Wars, and up to today. Additionally, you will receive a "Champagne Style Line" that will identify for you the range of Champagne personalities out there so you get what you want with your hard-earned dollars.

** Class begins at 6:30 pm sharp and all attendees will be eligible for a discount on Champagne purchases made that evening. This is the top class on the subject of Champagne that you can experience in the state of Minnesota. For fifteen years I've been presenting this class, and every year I find more information to pack into the program.
