Behind the Book: Some Hell w/ Patrick Nathan & Chris Jones

If it's true that everyone has a book idea in them, this wide-ranging conversation will help us understand how an author can take that idea and make it a reality. Chris Mackenzie Jones' new book Behind the Book (University of Chicago Press, 2018) traces the in-depth stories of how eleven debut authors brought their debut works into the world.

On April 9, debut novelist Patrick Nathan will join Chris to explore the story behind his new novel, Some Hell (Graywolf Press, 2018). The conversation will reflect and build on the in-depth interviews that Chris conducted to write Behind the Book. We will examine the life history behind Patrick's new book from beginning to end—including generating the idea, developing a process, building a support network, revising the manuscript, moving past setback, finding the right partners, building awareness, and ultimately, moving on to the next project. Come raise a glass, learn through example, and celebrate as two local authors go behind the book. A book signing will follow.

Presented by Graywolf Press, University of Chicago Press, and Milkweed Books.

UPDATE: the first 40 people who purchase Some Hell or Behind the Book that night will receive a complimentary beer!
