April 28, 2018, Saturday - Skyways of Minneapolis Mobile Photography Tour

Time: 10am-1pm

Location: JB Hudson Jewelers

The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM) will host two mobile photography walking tours this spring, one through the Skyway system of downtown Minneapolis and another through St. Paul's Irvine Park neighborhood.

The tour will teach participants how to capture beautiful photos of the built environment using just a phone. The tour begins with a crash course on mobile photography from professional photographer & avid Instagrammer Eric Mueller. Then, Augsburg art and architecture professor Kristin Anderson will guide the group on a tour, highlighting the architectural, historical, and social contexts of each area.

The Skyways of Minneapolis tour will begin at J.B. Hudson Jewelers on the first floor of the historic Young Quinlan Building. The tour will use only Skyways to complete the route. This allows for a unique perspective on downtown Minneapolis' notable sights and structures like Government Plaza and IDS Center.

Registration is available online through the Preservation Alliance of MN website, www.mnpreservation.org. Sustaining Donors to PAM receive free admission to these tours. Students receive 50% off by using the coupon code “STUDENT” and bringing their ID the day of the tour.

These tour is hosted by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM), a statewide nonprofit organization that leads and inspires people to connect to valued places in their communities. Whether it’s an old home or storefront on the corner, a rural community’s old high school, or an urban neighborhood’s long-retired factory, PAM works to preserve and protect the bond felt by community members toward these places, the memories such places represent, and the distinct characteristics they display.

This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society.
