April 17, 2016, Sunday - Tanaka Scholarship Benefit Concert at MacPhail

Time: 3:30 PM

Location: MacPhail Center for Music, Antonello Hall, 501 S 2nd Street

Tanaka Scholarship Benefit Concert

No tickets required.  Free and open to the public.

Throughout his life, Shin Tanaka was an avid supporter of the arts and held friendships with many of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians. In 1980 he married Susan Hellerud, a beloved alumna of MacPhail College and member of its piano faculty since 1966. In 1996, Susan Hellerud established the need-based scholarship fund in his memory.

Shin Tanaka’s love for music lives on through MacPhail piano students, and through scholarship benefit concerts performed in his honor. This scholarship has been awarded for 19 years to a young dedicated pianist with financial need.

Performers in this year’s benefit concert include:
MacPhail piano faculty members, Susan Hellerud and Susan Genaw.
Minnesota Orchestra members, Catherine Schubilske and Sachiya Isomura,
University of Northwestern Pianist, Richard Lange.
and prize winning author Sara De Luca (who just happens to be Susan Hellerud’s twin sister!)
