April 13, 2017, Thursday - Battlefield opens at Guthrie Theater

Time: 7:30pm

Location: Guthrie Theater, 818 South 2nd Street

The Guthrie WorldStage Series presents Battlefield
based on the Mahabharata and the play by Jean-Claude Carrière
adapted and directed by Peter Brook
and collaborator Marie-Hélène Estienne

Legendary British director Peter Brook and his longtime collaborators Marie-Hélène Estienne and Jean Claude Carrière are no strangers to epic storytelling: in 1985 they conceived, wrote and directed the Mahabharata, a nine-hour production that was lauded as one of the greatest theatrical achievements of all time. Thirty years later the collaborators have returned to the Indian epic to create this 70-minute landmark production, a revised and extended excerpt from the ancient Sanskrit poem.

Battlefield uses four actors and a musician to evoke the apocalyptic aftermath of a war between rival members of the same family, while exploring the immeasurable costs of victory. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to experience Brook’s masterpiece on the Guthrie stage.
