Morning Forum: The Minneapolis Preservation Story

A major tenet of being a preservationist is the importance of understanding our history. To that end, we thought it most appropriate to take some time and talk about the history of Preserve Minneapolis – and, for that matter, the history of preservation in Minnesota.

Join us on Wednesday, April 11th, for our next Morning Forum, where our speakers, Charlene Roise and Denis Gardner, will explore what preservation means to Minneapolis and Minnesota. They will talk about notable preservation projects and the important role they play in our unique sense of place and deep community pride. 

Meet our speakers!

Charlene is a founding partner of Hess, Roise and Company, historical consultants, and became the company’s president in 1997. She has worked around the country on a broad spectrum of cultural resources ranging from bridges and aircraft hangars to high-style commercial buildings and designed landscapes. She serves on the board of The Cultural Landscape Foundation, based in Washington, D.C.

Denis P. Gardner is the National Register Historian at the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office in St. Paul, where he reviews the eligibility of properties for the National Register of Historic Places. He is the author of Minnesota Treasures: Stories Behind the State’s Historic Places (Minnesota Historical Society Press) and Wood, Concrete, Stone, and Steel: Minnesota’s Historic Bridges (University of Minnesota Press). His latest book is Our Minnesota State Capitol: From Groundbreaking Through Restoration (Minnesota Historical Society Press).
