Rebecca Pfeiffer recently announced the 2012 schedule for the popular Taste Twin Cities Food Tours "Minneapolis Riverwalk Tour", which returns in April with new and exciting tastings.
The Riverwalk Tour explores the Mill District and St. Anthony on Main in Northeast Minneapolis. You'll enjoy the afternoon sampling a variety of food at historical landmarks, as well as visit the Mill City Museum, stroll by the Guthrie, and enjoy gorgeous views of St. Anthony Falls while crossing the Stone Arch Bridge into historical St. Anthony on Main.
You'll learn about the history of both these neighborhoods including a stroll along the oldest street in Minneapolis. Taste and chat with other food-loving guests, and leave the tour with an appreciation for these distinct neighborhoods.
Scheduled tours are available Friday - Sunday, and you can also a book a private tour.
To learn more, visit their website and Facebook, and follow them on Twitter.
Chefs for Change is a unique dining experience held monthly at People Serving People, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting PSP programs. Local chefs prepare special menus and wine pairings for an intimate setting of 30-40 guests.
We attended the February 21 dinner, which featured Chef Nipa Bhatt's Indian-American fusion cuisine. Prior to the first course, Nipa (pictured below with Gwen Campbell, PSP's Relationships and Systems Coordinator) introduced herself and the dishes.
From the appetizers to dessert, each dish was incredibly flavorful.
The main course started with a plate of Basmati rice, Naan bread and condiments, followed by a parade of large bowls containing four Curry dishes. (We all dug in so quickly I only captured pictures of two Curries.)
Nipa prepared a sampling of spices she uses:
Darrin at Sorella Wine and Spirits did an expert job selecting wines for this dinner.
The volunteers who serve Chefs for Change dinners are friendly and professional.
Below, Daniel Gumnit, PSP's Chief Executive Officer, welcomed guests and provided some impressive statistics on the services PSP delivers and the number of families they are able to assist.
At the end of the evening, attendees took home "swag bags".
Attending a Chefs for Change dinner is a win-win for everyone. You'll enjoy a lovely meal, plus meet a local chef and other interesting people. Attendees who arrive a half hour prior to dinner can join PSP staff members for a tour of this amazing facility, and learn about the valuable services PSP provides families in transition. Finally, the entire ticket fee goes towards PSP programs.
Upcoming Chefs for Change dinners include:
March 19 - The Oceanaire Seafood Room
April 17 - Barbary Fig
May 21 - The Capital Grille
June 18 - PSP All Star Chefs

Good News! Per Chris Riemenschneider's February 20 Star Trib article, the Stone Arch Festival of Arts will live on in 2012. Full Story

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board(MPRB) has provided a link to its community survey on sustainability, hoping that you'll take a few minutes to complete the survey before February 26.
The survey is one way the MPRB is collecting public feedback on its sustainability initiatives – from watering trees to recycling in the parks and at community events. Sustainability was identified in the 2007-2020 Comprehensive Plan as one of the five core organizational values upon which the MPRB performs its work.
The MPRB will use the survey's findings to help plan its education and outreach efforts regarding sustainability in Minneapolis parks, programs and events.
Click hereto complete the survey online. Paper versions are also available in all of MPRB's recreation and service centers.
Please feel free to pass the survey link on to others who may be interested in keeping the park system green.
"Thank You!" to City Gardens Flower Mill and Sanctuary for making our Valentine's Day special!
Whenever an occasion calls for a special meal, Sanctuary is our go-to spot. Our Valentine's dinner started off with drinks from the Martini and Potions menu - After the Storm and Orange Gargoyle.
For this visit we chose the Marinated Giant Shrimp and Hawaiian Opakapaka.
We usually start with an appetizer, but this time we opted to have dessert instead. The Caramelia Chocolate Marquise is pure melt in your mouth ecstasy. You just have to try it to understand.
Valentine's Day is Tuesday! Whether you want to woo a new love interest, or show your long time significant other how your love continues to grow - City Gardens Flower Mill can put together the perfect arrangement for you.
From the classic red rose to delicate yellow oncidium orchids...
... ask to be surprised with something out of the ordinary.
They also carry cards and gifts.

I'm a huge fan of the yogurt, chevre and other cheeses produced by Singing Hills Goat Dairy, one of my must-see vendors at the Mill City Farmers Market. Thanks to the winter Farmers Markets at Local D'Lish, we don't have to go without Singing Hills' products during the Mill City Farmers Market off season.
MCFM recently paid a visit to Singing Hills Goat Dairy this winter took this video:

According to Brian Johnson's article in the February 4 Finance & Commerce, the Minnesota Historical Society is seeking construction bids to patch and repair the Washburn Crosby Elevator No. 1, part of a complex that rates among the most historically significant structures in Minneapolis.
MHS owns the building and wants to make it safe and prevent further decay. The estimated $1.25-$1.5 million in repairs will be paid for with asset preservation funds the MHS received from the state over several bonding cycles.
Bids are due to MHS by February 23 for services that include demolition of the mill’s cast-in-place concrete roof over the grain bins, application of a waterproof membrane on head house roofs, concrete repairs, and installation of window and door coverings.
