Plan to ease Washington Avenue rush hour traffic

According to an August 20 Star Tribune article, Minneapolis and Hennepin County want to construct what would be the first new downtown freeway link in many years, in the hope of unclogging Washington Avenue and other feeder streets near 35W.

Hennepin County is applying for a $16 million federal grant to build a link from downtown Minneapolis to the University area.  The County wants to connect S. 4th Street to northbound 35W, which would offer drivers an alternative to back ups on Washington of vehicles waiting to make a left turn onto 35W.
