October 27, 2017, Friday - Bands That Brew at Day Block Brewing

Time: 9pm Doors | 21+ | $5 Cover in Tap Room, Dining Room is always no cover

Location: Day Block Brewing Company, 1103 Washington Avenue S

The October edition of Bands That Brew features City Pages Best New Band winners Poolboy.

Minneapolis indie-rock quintet Poolboys sound has a simmering, slow-burning charm. The five elegantly refined tracks that comprise the groups self-titled EP showcase singer Seth Conovers self-deprecating personal observations, which are complemented by textured, blossoming arrangements. Poolboy honed their adventurous psych-rock sound by gigging around town with a wide array of young bands who inspire one another. As a result, the shows have gotten tighter since their record-release party in 2016. The occasional new songs that pop up during Poolboys live sets hint that a new release is imminent, and hopefully, the group ...can build on the promise suggested by their captivating and inventive debut. - City Pages

Beer - Session IPA
In this Bands That Brew series we got together with PoolBoy and brewed a session IPA. Very light in color with heavy floral notes, citrus, and pine. Generously dry hopped at two pounds per barrel, the aroma alone will make you want to "Dive" right in.
ABV: 4.8

Inventively performed in both English and Arabic, participants of the Iraqi Voices program come together with a cast of professional actors to tell “the story of a thousand olive pits and seven thousand praises, tokens of love and a chilling escape from the desert of death.” Birds Sing Differently Here shares the ache of endings and the fullness of new opportunity.

Time: 4:30pm - 7:00pm

Location: Brave New Workshop, 824 Hennepin Avenue

2017 Minneapolis Idea eXchange

At the heart of innovation is the ability to step away from what we know and ask, 'What if?' MiX aims to set the stage to support us all as we ask the difficult or often unasked questions as we look to address the challenges we face as well as the opportunities just prime for us and the city of Minneapolis to embrace. A huge component of this supportive community is diversity of people, perspectives, experiences and cultures. We want them all at the table for a well-rounded MiX of conversation.

MiX 2017 will be design-thinking based and focused on models of businesses and organizations that cross over traditional structures into more integrated and aligned approaches and outcomes. Are you part of a for-profit business that seeks to be aligned with something more meaningful or socially relevant? Are you an employee of a non-profit organization that needs a jolt of business acumen and established processes to hold everyone accountable and thrive? MiX will introduce probable partners in these spaces and showcase examples via the people pushing these models forward.

Jim Delaney (Engine for Good) will faciliate a conversation that includes panelists Joy King (Be The Match), Liz Tupper (Software for Good), Ravi Norman (Thor Construction) and Tyler Van Eps (Matter NGO).

The cross-collaborative part of MiX rests with our activism-based facilitator, dynamic panel and you, the engaged attendee. After hearing the models and results the panel has to share, the facilitator will guide the audience in interaction to explore how a business/organization blended model could contribute to solving community issues and provide opportunities for civic engagement.
