Minneapolis Sculpture Garden Grand Reopening Event Highlights:

The grand reopening features a ceremonial moment and daylong celebration for all ages, including art-making activities, special performances, and tours in the Sculpture Garden. Highlights include an outdoor performance of Merce Cunningham’s Field Dances with dancers from the local community, in conjunction with the landmark exhibition Merce Cunningham: Common Time.

Performance: Black Market Brass, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm

Official Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: 12 noon

Walker Artist Talk: Monika Sosnowska
Thursday, June 1, 7 pm, Free
Walker Art Center
Warsaw-based artist Monika Sosnowska will deliver a talk on her sculpture, Untitled (gate) (2014), a new addition to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, followed by a conversation between Sosnowska and Walker curator Pavel Pyś.
Artist-Designed Mini Golf 2017
Saturday, June 3 – September 3
Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 10 am – 8 pm
Thursday – Saturday, 10 am – 10 pm
$19 adults; $16 students; $15 Walker members and children ages 6–12.
Free for ages 5 and under with paid adult.
Minneapolis Sculpture Garden
The Walker’s Artist-Designed Mini Golf 2017 returns to the Sculpture Garden with four new holes and 14 returning favorites. Visitors can try their luck with the Minnesota-themed “Tale of Two Cities,” take an imaginary ride on the Twin Cities light rail, then play through a colorful “Block Party” and a mirrored plinko-inspired hole. Every ticket includes free gallery admission (up to $14 value) for each golfer and a Walker Shop discount.

Walker Wide Open Party

The Walker opens its doors, galleries, and terraces to the party crowd for an evening of cocktails, food, music, installations, art-making activities, special performances, and other goings-on. Everyone will be in the mix, celebrating the grand reopening of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and the completion of construction around the Walker. The city’s art and soul is finally open to all!

In a conversation facilitated by former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, learn how architect Julie Snow, landscape designer Tom Oslund, Walker curator Siri Engberg, and Minneapolis Park Board project manager Dana Murdoch worked together to renovate the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and the Walker campus. Presented in partnership with Architecture MN magazine and its publisher, AIA Minnesota.
