History and science come together in a day of activities focusing on the role of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in the past and present of the Minneapolis riverfront. Families can learn about kitchen chemistry in a Baking Lab demonstration; discover how simple machines helped the Washburn A Mill operate and design a solution to a mill problem using K'nex.
Visitors can also solve the "Mystery of the Disappearing Waterfall," in a geology activity led by National Park Service rangers; enjoy a performance by History Player William de la Barre, the Austrian-born waterpower engineer; operate a small generator to see how electricity is created at St. Anthony Falls hydroelectric plants and more.
